How Do I Install Public OC Printers on my OC laptop?

Information about public printers

“Public” printers are available to everyone on campus (except for specialized lab printers restricted by academic major). please visit the following link for information on our public printing policy.

Printer Names identify the location of the printer, such as the building and the floor of the building (if applicable). For example: “public_mlc1st” is located on the 1st floor of MLC (Mabee Learning Center, a.k.a., the library).

Following are instructions for installing OC printers, first in windows, then in the Mac OS.

How to install printers in Windows

Click on Start, then click on the "Start Search" box. Type \\simeon\ and hit Enter. Once the window opens with a list of printers, scroll down to the public printers (public_hbc, public_pec, etc). When you find the one you are looking to install, double click on it. A window should come up, and it will begin the download. This can take up to a few minutes.

Soon, another window should open up with the printers name on it. Once you see that, the printer is installed.

You may already have the application for installing printers . If you do, check your applications folder and your dock for the icon that looks like the above. It should be called "Install Printers." Open this application. If you do not have this application, please visit our answer on installing the OC printer application.

Open the application

The application should now show the list of all the printers that are available to you on campus. Click on any printer on the left, and select the "add" button to add a printer. You can select multiple printers by holding down the command key, and several printers in a row by holding down the shift key.

To remove a printer, simply select the printer from the list on the right, and click "Remove."

Congratulations. You have now installed your OC printers. Go celebrate by printing that research paper you've been working so hard on.
