Connect to a Server - Mac

This page provides instructions for connecting to a server in the Mac OS. If you would like to connect to the server from off campus, please set up a VPN connection first.

Open Finder

  • Click the Finder icon on the dock

  1. Click Go in the menu bar at the top-left corner of your screen to reveal a drop-down menu.
  2. From the drop-down menu, select Connect to Server...

(Alternatively, you can hit "command + k" on the keyboard.)

Server Name

  1. In the Server Address box, type smb://
  2. Type the server name. (For example, judah or software)
  3. After the server name, type at the end  
  4. Enter a forward slash ( / ) followed by the share name you need to access. (For example, users or Microsoft)
  5. Enter a forward slash ( / ) followed by the folder name you need to access. (For example, or Office)

Faculty/Staff Network Share Information

Server Name:
Share Name: users
Folder Name:

To access a Faculty/Staff drive, enter smb://


You have successfully accessed an OC server from your Mac.

    You say to append "" to the end of the server name (e.g., smb://, but then you write:

    For example, to access your student drive, enter:


    You do not append "" to the end of Judah. This causes a mild case of cognitive dissonance.  :)
