Windows 7, 8.1, or 10 on Mac Computer

OC provides downloads for Windows 7, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10 to install on your personal device with the new "Bring Your Own Device" program. Follow the instructions below to install a Windows operating system on your Macbook.

Sections of this Answer:

You may want either a USB drive (version 2.0) with at least 8GB of space available or a DVD-R disc onto which you can burn the Windows operating system.

Graduate Software Licensing

Students who graduated between December 2009 and now will have access to Windows 7.

Students who graduated between April 2013 and now will have access to Windows 8.1 and Windows 7.

Students who graduated between December 2015 and now will have access to Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and Windows 7.

Enter Your OC Login Information

Enter Your OC Login Information
  1. Enter your OC username
  2. Enter your OC password
  3. Click Log In

Choose to Partition or Run Parallels

Once you have downloaded and saved the file, you are ready to install Windows.

To Make a Boot Camp Partition:

For instructions on creating a Windows partition using Bootcamp, please visit Apple's support website.

To Run Parallels Using Your Existing Boot Camp Partition:
  1. Download and install Parallels.
  2. Follow the instructions from the Parallels user guide.

Faculty and staff can access Parallels from the server. Students will have to purchase a Parallels license to use Parallels Desktop. To purchase your license, please visit the Parallels Student Edition website.

To Run Parallels without an Existing Boot Camp Partition:

Download and install Parallels.

Follow the instructions from the Parallels website.

Enter the Product Key

Before you can use your Windows installation, you must enter the product key. Click on your version of Windows below to see how to enter the product key.

Windows 7

Computer Properties

  1. Open the Start menu
  2. Right-click on Computer
  3. Click Properties

Change Product Key

Click Change Product Key

(You may need to scroll to the bottom of the window)

Open Graduate Software Webpage

  1. Navigate to the Graduate Software Downloads Page
  2. Find the Link to the Licnese file for your version of WIndows.

Enter OC Credentials

  1. Enter your OC username and Password
  2. Click Sign In

Copy Product Key

  1. Highlight and right-click on the product key
  2. Click Copy

Enter Product Key

  1. Right click in the Product Key box and click paste. The product key will appear (not pictured).
  2. Click Next
Windows 10

Settings

  1. Open the Start menu
  2. Click the Settings gear

Search for Product Key

  1. In the settings search bar, type product key
  2. Click View Your Product ID

Change Product Key

Click Change product key or upgrade your edition of windows

Click Change product Key again

Enter Product Key

  1. Right click in the Product Key box and click paste. The product key will appear (not pictured).
  2. Click Next

Success!

  • You have successfully installed Windows on your Mac.
