We're glad you've decided to make OC your home.  We want to do everything we can to make sure your college experience is smooth.  We understand that you have lots of questions about technology at OC.  We've compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions below.  If you still have questions, leave us a comment!

You'll need to bring a laptop computer for use in your classes at OC.

Why should I buy one of OC's recommended systems?

  • Hardware repairs can be performed on campus.  Support Central cannot repair other laptops.
  • If Support Central is doing the repairs, a loaner laptop may be available during the time of service.

OC provides a wide range of services for students including:

  1. Internet Access
  2. Software
  3. Printers
  4. Cable TV (basic service provided, with higher tiers available)
  5. Emergency Notifications
  6. Technical Support
  7. Network Cables (if desired)

What type of support is offered?

Software

Support Central will be happy to assist you with any software needs you have including software installation (including operating system re-install), general troubleshooting, and some training.  We also offer assistance with virus removal.

Hardware

Hardware

Support Central can provide warranty repairs for Apple and Dell computers.  If the repair falls outside of warranty support, there will be a charge for the repair.  Apple Care warranties do not cover accidental damage including liquid damage and dopped laptops.  Dell Basic Hardware Service will cover product defects.  Dell also offers additional Accidental Damage Service coverage that would cover spills and drops.

Loaners

Loaners

Loaners will be available for students who need a computer to take a test in a class.  Loaners may be available for an extended time for students who have their computer at Support Central for warranty repairs.

Diagnostics

Diagnostics

Support Central can complete full diagnostics on all Apple and Dell computers.  We can offer limited diagnostic services for other models on a case by case basis.

Training

Training

We want the software we offer to enhance your education.  Using software to its full potential will let you show off what you've learned.  We have plans to offer software training classes to give you a good understanding of each software package and the advantages it provides.

We haven't scheduled any classes for the fall yet, but we're planning to offer training classes on the following software packages:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft PowerPoint

Support Central is located in Cogswell-Alexander Hall.

During the school year we are open the following hours:

  • Monday - 7:30am - 8:30pm
  • Tuesday - 7:30am - 8:30pm
  • Wednesday - 7:30am - 5:30pm
  • Thursday - 7:30am - 8:30pm
  • Friday - 7:30am - 5:30pm
  • Saturday - Closed
  • Sunday - 8:30pm - 10:30pm
  • Closed daily for chapel.
