Items Needed
- A DVD & VHS RECORDER (If the machine is just a player it will not work)
- AV Cables (red, white and yellow cables)
- A TV with AV inputs (red, white and yellow/green holes)
- A VHS tape with footage you want to transfer
- An empty DVR (regular empty CD will not be acceptable)
- Plug in the AV cables to the corresponding colors in the AV Output holes on your DVD recorder. Take the other end of the cables and plug them into the corresponding colors in the AV Input holes on your TV.
- Turn on the DVD recorder and ensure it is set the VHS side. Turn on the TV and set the TV to the appropriate input (whatever named input you plugged the AV cables into on the back of the TV)
- Load your desired VHS into the player and fast forward it all the way from beginning to the end, and then rewind the tape. This will retension your VHS tape and ensure it correctly feeds from spool to spool resulting in a higher quality recording.
- Once the tape has been rewound, stop it and load in your empty DVR on the other side.
- Press the play button on your DVD Recorder to play the VHS and then press the copy to DVD button. This will begin the recording process.
- Once the desired amount of footage has been recorded, press the record button on your machine and press the stop button. This will halt both the recording and your VHS.
- Be kind, please rewind your VHS tape to the beginning.
- Eject the VHS tape and the DVD.
- Check the bottom of the DVD to see if footage has been burnt onto it. (indicated by tiny white rings emanating from the center of the DVD)
- Reinsert the DVD into the recorder and switch the recorder to the DVD mode.
- Play your DVD all the way through to make sure you have everything you need on the disc.
- Once you have ensured that your DVD has been properly recorded, get the remote for your DVD Recorder and press the menu button.
- Once on the menu, go to Disc Management.
- Select Finalize Disc. You will see a progress bar appear on the screen. Once that has finished, your DVD will have a menu that you can work through and be played on any other device.
- All done! Eject your DVD and make sure to label it and properly store it in a case to prevent scratches and deterioration.
