You can customize the web interface of your Gmail account. This answer provides instructions on how to alter some of the most common customization settings. You can customize how close together your information is spaced. Follow these instructions to alter your display spacing.
Settings

- Click the Settings icon in the top right corner of your screen.
- Toggle between the different Density options. Your inbox will adjust in real time as you click on the different options.
Theme
You can customize the background of your email. Follow these instructions to change the background of your email.

- Click on the 'Settings' icon in the top right corner of your screen.
- Click on the Theme you would like to view. For more options, click View all.
You can customize your Inbox Type, choosing how it is organized. Follow these instructions to customize your inbox.

- Click the 'Settings' icon in the top right corner of your screen.
- Click between the different Inbox Types. Changes are seen in real time.
You can customize the view of your inbox and some of its functionality. Follow these instructions for changing its view and/or its functionalities.
Settings

- Click the 'Settings' icon in the top right corner of your screen
- Click See all settings
- Click the Advanced tab
- Enable or Disable the settings you would like to use.
- Click Save Changes
If the option is enabled, the Enable circle will be selected.
