Customize Gmail

You can customize the web interface of your Gmail account. This answer provides instructions on how to alter some of the most common customization settings. Display Spacing
  • You can customize how close together your information is spaced. Follow these instructions to alter your display spacing.

Settings

  1. Click the 'Settings' icon in the top right corner of your screen.
  2. Choose Display Density
  • Comfortable - most spread out.
  • Cozy - items slightly closer together than Comfortable
  • Compact - items have little space between them
Inbox Configuration
  • You can customize the way your inbox is configued or organized. Follow these instructions to configure your inbox.

Settings

  1. Click the 'Settings' icon in the top right corner of your screen.
  2. Click Configure Inbox

Choose Configuration

  1. Choose which tabs you would like to be available in your inbox.
  2. Click save.
Themes
  • You can customize the background of your email. Follow these instructions to change the background of your email.

Settings

  1. Click on the 'Settings' icon in the top right corner of your screen.
  2. Click Themes

Select Theme

  1. Select your theme. There will be many themes available to you. If you would like, you can also upload a photo.
  2. Click Save
Labs
  • You can customize the view of your inbox and some of its functionality. Follow these instructions for changing its view and/or its functionalities.

Settings

  1. Click the 'Settings' icon in the top right corner of your screen
  2. Click Settings

Labs

  • In the menu bar at the top of the Gmail window, click 'Labs'

Enabled Labs

  1. Under Enabled Labs, you will see the labs currently in use.
  2. To disable any of these, click Disable on the right side.
  • If the lab is enabled, the Enable circle will be selected.

Available Labs

  1. Under Available Labs, you will see the labs not currently in use that are available to you.
  2. To enable any of these, click Enable on the right side.
  • If the lab is disabled, the Disable circle will be selected.
