FERPA requires that we gain permission from a student before we speak to a third party about their status as a student. Before speaking with a third party about a student, please use the instructions below to review the access they have granted for individual third parties.
Log on to myOC
- Log on to my.oc.edu.
- Click on Directory
- Search for the student for whom you'd like to check permissions.
- Click on the name of the student to open their record.
View FERPA Permissions
Click on the menu item labeled FERPA Permissions.
No Permissions Granted.
If a student has not granted access for employees to speak to anyone, the message above will appear. This means that employees may not speak to anyone regarding this student.
Some Permissions Granted
If the student has granted some access, each person that has been granted access will be listed along with the offices that have permission to speak with that individual. If employees are not in one of the offices specified, they do not have permission to speak with the third party about the student. If the third party is not on the list, employees do not have permission to speak with that person regarding the student.
