Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Canvas. Follow the steps below to install it on your device.
For Windows and Mac
- Click Here to access your institutions official LockDown Browser download page.
- Click the yellow "Install Now" button on the right-hand side of the screen.
- Once downloaded, open the installation file.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
- LockDown Browser is now ready for use.
Note: For Macbooks, you will need to change the LockDown Browser security setting
When you install LockDown Browser on a Mac, you will be prompted to change a privacy & security setting to allow LockDown Browser to record your webcam, screen and audio. Below are steps to change this setting:
Step 1: Go to: Apple icon > System settings > Privacy Security > Screen & System Audio Recording
Step 2: Allow LockDown Browser to have screen recording privileges.
Now that LockDown Browser is installed you can now take any test or exam that requires screen recording.
Chromebooks
For the chromebooks, you will need to use a chrome extension to use the Respondus Lockdown browser.
To install LockDown Browser for Chromebook:
- Log in to the Chromebook and launch Google Chrome.
- Log in to Canvas and navigate to the desired course.
- Scroll down to Quizzes and select the quiz you need to take.
4. When you first access a quiz that requires LockDown Browser, you will be prompted to install the Chrome extension.
5. From the Chrome web store, select Add to Chrome to install the LockDown Browser Extension.
6. An "Add LockDown Browser?" pop-up window will display; select Add Extension.
7. Restart your Chromebook.
8. Navigate to the quiz or exam in Canvas that requires Respondus Lockdown Browser, click on start the exam and LockDown Browser will launch itself.
9. Lockdown Browser will take you through multiple steps for identification purposes before taking the exam. The exact steps will vary depending on your professors settings.
10. You can start your test/quiz/exam.
