SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) is a software package used for statistical analysis. You must be on OC's campus or connected to the OC network via VPN in order to install the program.
We understand that there have been some issues with MacOSX and Statistics 28.0, 28.0.1, and 28.0.1.1. If you scroll to the end of this article, you will find "Patching Instructions" which should address this issue.
This program is only available for certain users due to licensing agreements. If you do not have access and believe you should have access to this program, please contact Support Central.
Connect to Server
- Connect to the server smb://Software.oc.edu/dist/IBM/SPSS/ (view our instructions for connecting to a server in Mac).
Open DMG File
- Double click on SPSS_Statistics_28_mac.pkg to open the installer package.
Start the Installer
Double click the SPSS icon to open the installer.
Authenticate
- Enter your computer user name and password.
- Click Install Helper to authenticate.
Select Language
- Select your language.
- Click OK
Start Setup Process
- Click Next
Accept Terms
- Select I accept the terms in the license agreement
- Click Next
Install Python Essentials
- Select Yes
- Click Next
Accept Terms
- Select I accept the terms in the license agreement
- Click Next
Confirm Download Location
- Click the Next button to keep the default install location.
Start Installation
- Click Install to begin the installation.
Allow Program to Install
This step may take several minutes.
Installation Complete
- Leave the box checked to start SPSS
- Click Done
License Product
- SPSS will launch.
- Click License Product
License Status
- Click Next
Concurrent License
- Select Concurrent License
- Click Next
License Manager
- Enter levi.oc.edu as the License Manager name.
- Press Next
Licensing Completed
Click Finish to complete the licensing.
The patch is located in the \\software\dist\ibm\spss folder in the 28.0.1.1-IM-S28STATC-MAC-IF008.zip file.
Step 1) Close all instances of Statistics 28 Desktop
Step 2) Navigate to the ../lib subdirectory in the Statistics 28 Desktop installation path.
***** to do this, right click on the SPSS Statistics.app file and click show contents *****
(e.g. "/Applications/IBM SPSS Statistics/SPSS Statistics.app/Contents/lib/")
Step 3) Locate the following file and back it up to a separate folder, such as your Desktop.
libplatdep.dylib
Step 4) Copy the following interim fix files to the 28 installation folder located in step 3.
libplatdep.dylib
Step 5) Make sure the installed files have correct permissions (e.g. chmod 755)
Success!
You have successfully installed and configured SPSS.
