Parallels Desktop for Mac is software providing hardware virtualization for Macintosh computers with Intel processors. The software allows Mac users to use Windows either from their Boot Camp partition or by setting up a separate virtual machine.
OC Employees will need to bring their laptops to Support Central to install Parallels on their machine.
This program is only available for certain users due to licensing agreements. If you do not have access and believe you should have access to this program, please contact Support Central.
Connect to Server
Hit the buttons Command and K on your keyboard simultaneously (not pictured).
- Type smb://software.oc.edu/dist/parallels/13 in the server address bar
- Click Connect
Enter Credentials
- Enter your OC username and OC password
- Click Connect
If you are not prompted for your credentials, continue to the next step.
Install Parallels DMG
Double-click to open the dmg file.
Open Installer
Double-click the package to start the install.
Download & Install Update
If prompted, click Download and Install Update. If not, continue to the next step.
Allow Installation
- Enter your password to allow the installation.
- Click OK
Connect to Server for Windows ISO
Hit the buttons Command and K on your keyboard simultaneously (not pictured).
- Type smb://software.oc.edu/dist/microsoft/windows/10 in the server address bar
- Click Connect
Drag ISO to Desktop
Do NOT double-click the ISO. Click and drag the Windows 10 ISO to your desktop.
Create New...
- If you DO NOT have a Windows partition from Boot Camp, use the option to Install Windows from a DVD or Image File. (The Boot Camp option will not be visible to you)
- If you have a Windows Partition from Boot Camp, use the option to Windows from Boot Camp.
- Click Continue
If you used option 1, continue with the steps below. If you used option 2, skip to Install Parallels Toolbox.
Drag ISO to Parallels
- Click and drag the ISO from the desktop to the parallels window.
- Click Continue
Memory Allocation
Click Change
Allow Installation
This may take several minutes. If you are plugged into the network via ethernet cable, the process should go faster.
Start Anyway Screen
If a screen pops up telling you your computer may run slower and asks if you'd like to start anyway, click Cancel.
Close the Installer Windows
Close the installer windows. You will not need them anymore.
Install Parallels Toolbox
- Right-click on the Parallels Icon in your dock
- Click Preferences
Continue with Install
- Click the Toolbox icon in the top right of the preferences box
- Click Install
Agree to Terms
Click Agree
Parallels Toolbox
When the Install is complete, the toolbox will open.
Windows 10 Activation
You will need to activate your Windows installation. Follow the instructions below.
Product ID
- Search for product ID in your Windows search bar.
- Choose View your product ID
Change Product Key
Click Change Product Key
Click Change Product Key
Obtain License Key
Open the License Key text file from the Windows 10 folder on the software server.
smb://software.oc.edu/dist/microsoft/windows/10
Copy License Key
Highlight and copy the product key.
Paste Product Key
- Paste the Product key
- Click Next
Activate
Click Activate
Success!
You have successfully installed Parallels on your Mac. The Parallels icon will be found in your launchpad or applications folder. You can click and drag this icon to your dock for easier access. You can also close out all of the installation windows.
