- Go to studio.youtube.com.
- Click on Videos in the menu on the left side of the screen.

- Click on the picture of the video you want to add captions to (If you have not yet uploaded any videos, click here to learn how to upload one).
- Click on Subtitles on the left side.

- Set the language to English (United States).
- If you do not see English (United States), click the blue "ADD LANGUAGE" button in the top right corner and select English (United States) from the list.
- Click ADD under Subtitles.
- Click on the Transcribe and auto-sync button.

- Immediately click Exit.
- Look for and click English (Automatic).

- If by chance it is not there then... wait it out.
- If you want to edit the automatic subtitles, then click the Edit button in the top right corner.

- Now you should be able to add punctuation and correct capitalization and spelling by clicking into the text boxes on the left hand side and editing the text.
