Embed a Google Document or PDF into Blackboard Using the North Institute Embedder (show/hide)

Ingredients:

• Computer with an Internet connection
• Google Drive
• Google Document
• Blackboard course shell

Directions:

1. Upload your file to Google Drive if it is not already there(need help?  Click Here).
2. Go to the file location in your Google Drive and double-click on the file to open it.
3. Open another tab and go to The NI Embedder. 
4. Select your file type (Google Document) from the left.
5. Select the radio button to the left of Google Document or PDF.
6. Go back to the tab with your file and click File at the top.
7. Select Publish to the web.
8. Be sure that Link is selected.
9. Click Publish.  Then OK.
10. Copy the highlighted Link.
11. You may now close out of the tab with the Google Document.
12.  Now paste the copied Link in the Paste link to file: box.
13. Click Submit.
14. In the box the embed code should appear: (below is an example of a proper looking code)

15. Click Copy code to Clipboard.

Embedding the Item into Blackboard

1. Open another new tab in your browser and browse to the Blackboard course shell into which you would like to embed the Google Document.
2. In the content area where you would like to embed the file, hover your mouse over the Build Content button.
3. Under Create, choose Item.
4. Give the item a name
5. Click the HTML button in the third (bottom) toolbar above the content text box. [Don’t see three toolbars? Click here]
6. In the box that pops up, paste the embed code you copied.
7. Click the Update button.
8. Set any remaining options on the item (e.g., track number of views, dates/times for display, etc.)
9. Click Submit.

All done!
