My battery life seems to be getting shorter. Does this mean that the battery is defective? If so, when is the battery "bad enough" to be replaced?

Replace Battery
If your battery's life seems to be shortening, this does not necessarily indicate that it is a defective part. Like all other material things, your battery will eventually wear down. However, your battery can be replaced. When your battery's life becomes so short that it is no longer functional, Support Central can replace the battery. You are allowed one free battery replacement while you are a student at OC. After that, you can purchase a replacement battery through Support Central.
Check the Condition of Your Battery

Follow these instructions within the in the MacOS (the "Mac side")
- Hold down the "alt/option" key while clicking on the battery icon in your menu bar at the top-left corner of your screen.
- The "Condition:" label will state the condition of your battery.
- See this support article by Apple for an explanation of the different conditions.
- If your battery Condition is "Replace Now" or "Service Battery" we should be able to replace it. Please bring your computer and power adapter to Support Central and we will run a test on your battery to determine if your battery needs to be replaced.
